Spring vetches of medium growing season (90 to 105 days), suitable for both green and fodder, with a high protein content. It weighs between 35 g and 60 g depending on the year, with a crude protein content of 29-32 g.%. Its yield ranges from 0.8 to 1.5 t/ha, depending on the vintage. The average stem length is 50-110 cm, the number of pods per plant is 6-12, and the number of seeds per plant is 30-70. Its use as a green manure crop has increased significantly in recent years, with biomass yields ranging from 10 to 15 t/ha, reaching 15 to 20 tonnes per hectare in a wet crop year, which, when rotated into the soil, represents a significant amount of nutrients for the next crop. Its stem is thin, lying down, so it is mainly sown in combination with oats, both as green fodder and for seed production. It can be grown in most of Hungary’s territory, with the exception of areas with extreme conditions, and it prefers soils with a good cultural condition, medium-bound or loose, loamy structure. It requires adequate rainfall supply for hatching and initial development.
Recommended seed standard:
• oats + spring vetches: 80 + 50 kg/ha
• spring vetch: 100 kg/ha
