In a short time, it develops a root system that penetrates deeper than the main plant and is richly branched, thereby revealing and binding nutrients that are not available to other plants, which can be used in the optimal soil layer for the post-plant in the spring. By sequestering the nitrogen stock of the soil, which is otherwise destined for leaching, it can be utilized by the post-plant. It loosens the problematic, compacted, poorly structured soil layers. It has a very positive effect on soil life due to the increase of humus content and soil loosening. This has been shown to persist in both soil structure and fertility, improving the air, water and nutrient management of our soil.
As a freezer cover plant, it provides a suitable mulch layer for sowing the main plant.
Richly blooming, good bee-grazing plant.
It is recommended as a precursor to almost all important plants except rapeseed.
